Who is Green Yakka?

Green Yakka is a not-for-profit social enterprise working with businesses and organisations across Sydney and the Illawarra. We provide hands-on support that’s reliable, practical and backed by purpose.

What work does Green Yakka do?

We create job pathways for people who deserve a fair go.

We hire former refugees, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, young people and others who face barriers to employment.

Through our Work Readiness Program and hands-on work that tackles waste and cares for the land, we help people build the skills, confidence and experience to thrive.

What does the name Green Yakka mean?

“GREEN” reflects our social and environmental purpose and nods to our roots — continuing more than a decade of impact as part of Green Connect.

“YAKKA” comes from yaga, meaning ‘work’ in the Yuggera language of Meanjin, and speaks to the honest, physical work our teams do every day.
